San Pedro De Atacama – Paso De Jama Border

January 2013

With 160km between the two border posts, it has to be the further distance we have traveled between two countries!

On the way out of San Pedro you can get your exit stamp and hand over your Chile temporary import permit – quick and easy! Get there before 8am when it opens and beat the coach load of tourists!

Ride 160km of high altitude roads through some fantastic scenery and arrive refreshed in Paso De Jama.

There is a modern building with Immigration and Aduana all in the same place. Simply line up at immigration and they pass you down the numbered counters to get your passport stamp and vehicle permit. It couldn’t be easier and was a very quick process.

They did not ask to see proof of motor insurance for Argentina (which is lucky as there is nowhere to buy it!!)

No money or photocopies required. A very easy border to cross and probably the most beautiful so far!
